Case Study 01 — Probate & Administration
Managing a parent's estate while living abroad
The Situation
An Australian national whose Thai parent had passed away, leaving a Bangkok condominium, a bank account, and some gold jewellery. The client was unable to travel to Thailand and had no Thai language ability. There was a valid Thai will but the client did not know how to proceed with it.
What We Did
We filed the will for probate, liaised with the Thai court through all hearings, corresponded with the bank, and coordinated the Land Department transfer of the condominium to the client. All communication was by email and video call. We obtained power of attorney to act on the client's behalf in Thailand.
Outcome
The estate was administered and fully transferred within five months. The client did not need to travel to Thailand at any point. All documentation was provided in English and Thai for the client's records.

Case Study 02 — Full Representation
A contested estate with disagreement among siblings
The Situation
A Thai family in which the deceased had left two wills — one older, one more recent — with different distributions of assets. Three of the four siblings accepted the later will; one did not. The disputed assets included land and a business interest.
What We Did
We represented the majority of siblings, establishing the validity of the later will through expert evidence and documentation. We also attempted informal resolution before formal proceedings, which partially succeeded — one asset was resolved by agreement, reducing the scope of the formal dispute.
Outcome
The court upheld the validity of the later will. The matter took approximately eight months to conclude. The partial informal resolution saved the family significant time and cost on one of the disputed assets.

Case Study 03 — Estate Consultation
Planning ahead for a mixed-nationality couple
The Situation
A Dutch national and his Thai wife, both living in Bangkok, wanted to understand how to structure their affairs so that assets would pass clearly on either death. They owned a condo in the wife's name, had joint bank accounts, and had conflicting advice from friends about what was and was not possible.
What We Did
We explained the legal position for each asset type, the distinction between Thai and foreign-held assets, and the options available to each spouse for their respective circumstances. We drafted a Thai will for the Thai spouse and advised on a suitable structure for the husband's situation given the foreign ownership constraints.
Outcome
Both clients left with a clear plan and the documentation to support it. The husband was also connected to an appropriate legal contact in the Netherlands for the foreign element of his estate.
